Music has always played an important part in my prayer life. I especially love when a secular song captures the emotions I struggle to express, or makes faith more accessible, often without the original artist intending that result. God uses us in spite of our intentions.
This song in particular is one of my favorites, and it is now part of my evening meditation. I used to think of it as a song between me and a reuniting lover, but today when I listen I hear a song about my often tenuous relationship with God.
Chaka Khan’s version will always be the best. But this version is gorgeous, too.
